686 Hydra™ Thermagraph® Jacket
The 686 Hydra™ Thermagraph® Jacket is designed to handle everything from deep powder days and sub-zero resort laps to milder spring sessions. Combining a highly waterproof infiDRY® 20K stretch outer fabric with 686's intelligent Thermagraph® body-mapped insulation system, the Hydra delivers dependable protection and targeted warmth without sacrificing mobility or comfort.
A true all-rounder for skiing and snowboarding, the Hydra is built to adapt as conditions change. Its strategic insulation placement helps retain warmth in key areas, while ventilation zones allow excess heat and moisture to escape when you're working harder. Add fully taped seams, an adjustable powder skirt, helmet-compatible hood and a comprehensive pocket system, and you have a jacket engineered for long days on the mountain.
20K Waterproof Protection
The Hydra uses a 2-layer infiDRY® 20K stretch fabric with a PFAS-free DWR finish, providing a high level of waterproof protection for demanding winter conditions.
With a 20,000mm waterproof rating, the outer shell is designed to withstand heavy snowfall and wet conditions while helping keep moisture from penetrating the jacket. A durable water-repellent finish encourages water to bead from the surface, while fully taped Bemis® seams help prevent moisture entering through the stitching.
The result is a protective outer layer designed to keep you dry when conditions turn challenging.
Thermagraph® Body-Mapped Insulation
At the heart of the Hydra is 686's Thermagraph® body-mapping system, which strategically positions insulation throughout the jacket to balance warmth and breathability.
The jacket uses 140g insulation made from 85% recycled material, helping retain body heat in key areas while maintaining a comfortable, mobile feel. Rather than relying on uniform insulation throughout the garment, Thermagraph® technology is designed to place warmth where it is most useful and allow greater breathability in areas where you naturally generate more heat.
This makes the Hydra versatile enough to handle a broad range of winter conditions and activity levels.
Stretch Construction for Freedom of Movement
The Hydra's stretch fabric construction allows the jacket to move naturally with your body.
Whether you're carving turns, riding through powder, navigating technical terrain or reaching down to adjust your bindings, the added stretch helps minimise restriction and keeps you comfortable throughout the day.
It's particularly useful when combined with layers underneath, giving you the freedom of movement needed for active snow sports without compromising the protective fit of the jacket.
Air-Flo™ Underarm Ventilation
When you're working hard on the mountain, the Hydra gives you the ability to quickly release excess heat with Air-Flo™ underarm vents.
Open the vents during high-output riding or warmer spring conditions to allow fresh air in and moisture-laden air out. Close them again when temperatures drop to retain warmth.
This adjustable ventilation is a key part of the Hydra's versatility, allowing the jacket to adapt to changing temperatures and activity levels.
Vader Vents™ for Reduced Goggle Fogging
The Hydra also features 686's Vader Vents™, discreet ventilation openings designed to help release moisture and reduce the build-up of warm air around the face and goggles.
They're particularly useful during high-output riding, when managing internal moisture can make a significant difference to comfort and visibility.
Built to Keep Snow Out
For deep powder and storm days, the Hydra is equipped with an attached adjustable powder skirt featuring a Lycra® stretch panel.
The skirt helps prevent snow from working its way underneath the jacket when you're riding through deep snow or taking a fall, while the stretch panel allows it to move naturally with your body.
The Pant Jacket Connect™ System provides an additional way to integrate the jacket with compatible 686 snow pants, creating a more secure barrier against snow.
Helmet-Compatible Adjustable Hood
The Hydra features an adjustable, helmet-compatible hood designed to provide additional coverage when the weather closes in.
The hood can be adjusted to help achieve a secure fit over your helmet, while the Hood Link System provides additional functionality when packing or storing the jacket.
Comfort-Focused Interior
The inside of the Hydra is designed with comfort in mind. A honeycomb fleece inner collar provides a soft feel around the neck while helping add warmth in colder conditions.
The jacket also incorporates inner Lycra® wrist gaiters, helping create a close seal between the sleeves and gloves. These can help prevent cold air and snow from working their way up the sleeves while maintaining a comfortable range of movement.
Comprehensive Pocket Storage
The Hydra offers an 8-pocket design, giving you plenty of dedicated storage for your mountain essentials.
External storage includes:
-

-
Chest zippered pocket with internal key clip

Practical Details Throughout
686 has built the Hydra around the small details that make a difference on a long day outdoors.
Adjustable welded cuffs allow you to fine-tune the sleeve opening around your gloves, while the adjustable bottom hem cinch helps customise the fit and prevent cold air or snow from entering underneath.
Glove Link™ inner thumb grips help keep sleeves positioned securely when you're putting on gloves or moving around the mountain.
Tangle Free Headphone Loops help keep compatible headphone cables organised, while the asymmetrical front zip is designed to reduce uncomfortable chin rubbing.
Designed for Changing Conditions
One of the Hydra's biggest strengths is its versatility.
The combination of 20K waterproofing, body-mapped insulation, stretch construction and adjustable ventilation makes it suitable for everything from cold mid-winter conditions to warmer spring days.
When temperatures drop, the Thermagraph® insulation helps retain warmth. When you're working hard, Air-Flo™ vents and Vader Vents™ can be opened to release excess heat and moisture. This adaptability makes the Hydra a practical choice for riders who want one jacket capable of covering a wide range of resort conditions.
